Vodka Ginger Twist

Vodka Ginger Twist

Sometimes there's a lot to be said for simple. A refreshing and light cocktail seemed perfect for this time of year, when we're all trying to work off the holiday excess. Not too many ingredients, no high calorie liqueurs and with a crisp taste of ginger to make it special.

I still have plenty of ginger syrup left and it's much too good to waste. So I paired it with the clean taste of vodka and a good bit of lemon for a sweet, sour and sharp blend that's quite addictive. Give it a good shake to tone down the octane, as it were, and sip away. Cheers!

Per Serving:
1 1/2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Lemon juice
1 oz. Ginger syrup (recipe follows)

Ginger Syrup:
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water
2 Hands fresh ginger, sliced
Tiny pinch of salt

To make the syrup, combine the sugar, water, sliced ginger and salt in a pot on medium heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and remove from the heat. Let the pot sit, off the heat, for a couple of hours or until completely cool. Strain, pour into a bottle and keep in the fridge.

Add the vodka, lemon juice and ginger syrup to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake very well before pouring into a chilled cocktail glass.

  1. I had a hankering for a Black Russian the other day. Think I'll have this instead.

  2. I made some ginger syrup to make some home made ginger ale and didn't even think about using it in a cocktail!! I've started a new linky party called Tipsy Tuesday on my other blog, "Grey is the New Black" - I would love it if you would consider linking up! Thank you!

  3. Theoretically, all vodka should taste the same. Vodka fanatics will agree that the neutral preference does not account much for its attractiveness. Best vodka can mix well with other accompaniment like tonic, tomato juice, cola pop, amongst others. Anything you mix your drink with will establish if it will be as sharp and company or simply another trashy combine. vodka eyeballing

  4. Basic. Tasteless tasting. Good to mix with Coke. I'll never touch the stuff again subsequent to getting pounded on a large portion of a jug of it at a mate's home when I was 16 and from that point redesigning his guardians en suite with the substance of my stomach.
